Services for Children and Teens

Children and teens today are facing challenges that are unique to today's society.  More and more children and teens are being confronted with difficult life changing choices and influences regarding drugs and alcohol, sex, peer groups, bullying, and more.

I have extensive expertise in working with struggling children, teens and their family.  Sometimes, children and teens need a non-judgemental ear, an empathic voice and a gentle hand to hold them accountable and to help them work through their confusing emotions and difficult issues.

I offer individual, family and group therapy at a sliding scale rate.  I have found that children and teens gain from a group setting where they can learn and relate to their peers and not feel so alone.

Here are a few of the groups that I have to offer:

Divorce Survival for Children (grades 1-6)

This interactive group covers topics about the grief process, the different emotions one may experience throughout the process, exploring ways to cope. All information is designed to be age appropriate.  If you are an individual or organization who is interested in this support group please contact Christine Hurst.

 Smart Steps: Embrace the Journey

This 6 week workshop is facilitated in parallel to the parents workshop.  At the end of each of the children's group the parents are invited in to discuss what the children have been learning.  This is a great workshop series for stepfamilies and helps all members of the family to understand and learn how to enjoy their stepfamily more fully. If you are an individual or organization who is interested in this workshop please contact Christine Hurst.

  Building Leadership in all Teens:

The sessions in group guide teens to explore what it means to be a leader, how to work with others, ethical decision-making, risk-taking, team-building, communication, creative thinking, and more. If you are an individual or organization who is interested in this workshop please contact Christine Hurst.

A Multiple Family Group Therapy Program for At Risk Adolescents and Their Families

This is a multi-family group that provides families with the opportunity to learn, share, and gain the tools and skills they need to get back on track as a family.  This goals of this group are to: 1) validate every family member's experience, 2) Learn tools and gain insight from each other and from the psycho-educational component of the program 3) To develop a Relapse Prevention Plan to provide a structure to help maintain the gains made from this group. If you are an individual or organization who is interested in this workshop please contact Christine Hurst.
